Sandra Clark, a shareholder of MEHAFFYWEBER since 1985, is a trial lawyer whose primary concentration is in premises liability, commercial and products liability litigation. She has extensive trial experience and has successfully tried many complex litigation cases. She along with her partner M.C. Carrington successfully defended an environmental case in the United States District Court in the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division, which was named by the National Law Journal as one of the top defense verdicts in the nation. Sandra is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law and served as Chair of the Advisory Committee to the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for Personal Injury. She currently serves as a liaison committee member for the Texas Asbestos MDL.

  • E. G. Cordts, Jr. v. E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company; M.C. Carrington, Sandra Clark, MehaffyWeber; Damond Mace, Squire, Sanders & Dempsey; NO. 1:99 CV 0085; for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas; Beaumont Division; Successful defense of a landmark $173 million deepwell case for Fortune 500 client. Case was reported in many national publications, including the DRI “For the Defense” and the National Law Journal.
  • E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company vs. Travelers, et al; 2007. M.C. Carrington and Sandra Clark successfully resolved DuPont's insurance coverage dispute with their asbestos insurance carriers. The court implemented a Docket Control Order that included a trial setting within a year of filing of the case.
  • Art Almquist, Sandra Clark, Paul Heyburn -Janie Wolf, et al vs. The Dow Chemical Co.; Cause Number 16383*BH01, District Court of Texas, 23rd Judicial District, Brazoria County, The Dow Chemical Co. received a defense verdict on February 1, 2008. In 1999, Alton Wolf died of lung cancer, at the age of 65. Wolf's widow and adult children sued Dow for gross negligence, alleging that Mr. Wolf's cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos in the workplace and that the workplace was unsafe. Alton Wolf held various jobs, such as a pipefitter and operator from 1952 to 1987 as an employee of The Dow Chemical Co. in Freeport. Dow Chemical contended that it operated its facility in a safe manner that Mr. Wolf's asbestos exposure was minimal and his cancer was caused by his smoking history of at least 40 pack-years.
  • Whisnant vs. DuPont- Successful defense of a product liability case lasting over six weeks. The plaintiff was a contractor employee who claimed exposure to asbestos while working on various DuPont premises. He was diagnosed with mesothelioma and died of the disease. Our client, DuPont, alleged that it was not negligent and not a proximate cause of the plaintiff's injury. The jury found that DuPont was not negligent. The plaintiffs demand was $42 million plus punitive damages.
