Arthur R. Almquist, a shareholder the firm's Houston office, is Board Certified in Civil Trial and Personal Injury Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. His primary practice area is complex and mass tort litigation involving the petrochemical and refining industries. In his early years of practice, this representation involved primarily premises personal injury litigation. His practice evolved into the handling and trial of asbestos, benzene and other toxic substance cases. He was a national trial team member for one of his clients in this area.

He has also had an active practice in the area of probate and guardianship litigation. He has defended wills that have been attacked on grounds of undue influence, lack of testamentary capacity, fraud and forgery. He has also successfully probated wills which included a holographic will that substantially changed the testator’s intentions for his estate from his prior attorney produced wills. He understands that this litigation is not just about legal issues but also involves entire family relationships that require careful attention

Art has also tried a number of product liability cases involving products from aluminum ladders to motorcycles to truck tires. While representing products defendants, he has learned to operate lattice boom and hydraulic cranes and become familiar with engineering standards and warnings standards for a number of industries.

Art is also experienced in the area of governmental liability and represented a Texas county in the ACLU class action arising from the actions of the sheriff of the county that are chronicled in the book, Terror on Highway 59.

In the course of his trial practice he has successfully argued in the appeals of the cases he and others have tried. He has appeared before the Texas Supreme Court and United States Fifth Court of Appeals as well as several Texas Courts of Appeal.
